\สาธยาย explain

The Thai word สาธยาย (sàat-thā-yāy) means "to explain," "to expound," or "to elaborate."  It suggests a more detailed and thorough explanation than a simple description.  It often implies a formal or careful explanation, perhaps of a complex or important topic.

Here are some examples with English translations:

**Example 1: Explaining a complex concept.**

* **Thai:**  อาจารย์สาธยายหลักการทางวิทยาศาสตร์อย่างละเอียด (aa-jaan sàat-thā-yāy làk-gaan thaang wit-thaya-sàat yàang lə-ìt)
* **English:** The teacher thoroughly explained the scientific principles. / The teacher expounded on the scientific principles in detail.

**Example 2:  Elaborating on a story.**

* **Thai:**  เขาสาธยายเรื่องราวที่เกิดขึ้นอย่างครบถ้วน (khǎo sàat-thā-yāy rʉ̂ang rao thîi gə̀ət khʉ̂n yàang khróp thûan)
* **English:** He gave a full account of what happened. / He elaborated on the events that transpired.

**Example 3:  Explaining a religious doctrine.**

* **Thai:**  พระสงฆ์สาธยายธรรมะให้กับชาวบ้านฟัง (phrá sǒng khɔ̌ng sàat-thā-yāy tham-ma hâi gập chāo bâan fǎng)
* **English:** The monk expounded on the Buddhist teachings to the villagers. / The monk explained the Dharma to the villagers.

**Example 4:  A more formal setting:**

* **Thai:**  ทนายความสาธยายข้อกฎหมายให้ศาลฟัง (thá-naay khwaam sàat-thā-yāy khɔ̂ gòt-maay hâi sàan fǎng)
* **English:** The lawyer explained the legal points to the court. / The lawyer expounded upon the legal arguments before the court.

**Example 5:  A literary context:**

* **Thai:**  บทกวีนี้สาธยายถึงความรักที่ยิ่งใหญ่ (bòt gawi níi sàat-thā-yāy thʉ̌ng khwaam rák thîi yîng yài)
* **English:** This poem eloquently describes great love. / This poem elaborates on the theme of profound love.

The word suggests a more formal and detailed explanation than simpler words like "อธิบาย" (à-thí-baay), which simply means "to explain."  สาธยาย (sàat-thā-yāy) implies a more thorough and considered presentation of information.
